Boluwatife Afolabi – LLM Law and Dispute Resolution
A lifelong fascination with the law and ambitions to become a solicitor were the driving force for the 23-year-old leaving Nigeria to study in Aberdeen.
Boluwatife completed the course with distinction and will also busy in her role as vice president of the Academic and Social Society of the Postgraduate Law School and playing a vital role with the Grampian Community Law Centre.
She said: “Honestly, I feel incredibly proud. Completing a master’s in law with a distinction is something I worked hard for and achieving it feels like a powerful confirmation of my persistence.
“My time at the university challenged me academically but also gave me space to grow as a leader and team player. Being vice-president of the post graduate law society and Equality Diversity and Inclusion manager for the Grampian Community Law Centre gave me a chance to do more than just study. I’m leaving with a sense of accomplishment and deep appreciation for the people I met, and lessons I learned.â€
During her studies, she was able to secure an international scholarship and access the support service on offer like counselling and wellbeing, employability and the Breakfast Club operated by .
Now Boluwatife is looking to the future and hopes to start her career within the legal profession, and she credits her time at ÍøºìǰÈα¬ÁÏ with helping take her initial steps in the world of work. Boluwatife enjoyed the opportunity to meet representatives from the legal sector and felt this was of huge benefit.
She added: “I plan to build my career as a solicitor and an arbitrator where I can use both my legal knowledge and dispute resolution skills to make a meaningful impact. I am particularly interested in roles that involve mediation, compliance or policy advisory work.
“My time at ÍøºìǰÈα¬ÁÏ has given me so much more than just a qualification, it has given me clarity, confidence and a solid foundation to step into the professional world. From guest speakers and alumni panels to networking events, ÍøºìǰÈα¬ÁÏ made it easy to engage with professionals and start building important relationships early on.â€
